The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) is hosting the nation’s largest occupational-focused safety and health event, March 11 – 13, 2020, in Columbus, Ohio. The Ohio Safety Congress & Expo (OSC20), sponsored by BWC, helps businesses keep their workforce safe, healthy and productive. More than 200 educational sessions, guest presenters from various states and 300 exhibitors share their knowledge and resources at this free event.

Occupational safety and risk management directors, workers’ compensation managers, health and wellness leaders, and individuals with an interest in occupational safety and health, wellness and rehabilitation of injured workers attend this event.

Session format
OSC20 offers more than 200 educational presentations with continuing education credits for a variety of professions.
We are seeking:

  • One-hour educational sessions.
  • One-hour panel discussions.
  • One-hour live demonstrations.
  • Three-hour and six-hour workshops.

Session focus
Selection committees consider all proposals relevant to occupational safety, health, wellness, rehabilitation and workers’ compensation. Selection committees may give additional consideration to proposals that meet the criteria below.

  • Research and best practices.
  • Use of technology.
  • Human resources.
  • Diversity and inclusion.
  • Employee wellness.
  • Safety management.
  • Roadway safety and motor vehicle accidents.
  • Session content that is appropriate for individuals with an advanced-level knowledge of the subject or more than 10 years’ experience related to the subject.

Selection criteria
Selection committees consider numerous factors including, but not limited to, the criteria below.

  • Use of proper sentence structure and correct spelling.
  • Session content is clearly organized, current, practical or innovative.
  • Session descriptions are substantive and explain the relevancy of the topic.
  • Session skill level is appropriate for the topic and targeted audience.
  • Learning objectives written as complete sentence.
    “Participants will be able to...” Use action verbs such as define, describe, distinguish, explain, identify, list, recall, recognize, select and summarize.

Session policies
Your proposal must be educational in nature and free from commercial content. We do not accept sales presentations. Proposals shall not consist of more than five speakers, including a moderator. For multiple speakers, each speaker must agree to the terms of this submission. Your material should be original; otherwise, you must reference sources. We do not provide honorarium for educational sessions. Speakers are responsible for accommodations and all travel-related expenses.

Virtual conference
OSC20 will offer a virtual conference element. The live broadcast format will stream an in-person track of sessions to a remote audience attending from a personal computer or mobile device. You will have the option to express interest in, opt-out of or pose questions regarding your session being considered for live broadcast.

If we select your proposal, you are committed to presenting the session at the designated date, time and location, and meeting the deliverable deadlines provided by BWC. The time-sensitive deliverables include, but are not limited to, logging on to the OSC20 Speaker Service Center, submitting audio-visual requirements, uploading session handout materials, etc. If emergency circumstances prevent you from fulfilling your commitment, we ask that you immediately notify BWC of the comparable subject-matter expert presenting on your behalf.
